As a career educator, many parents seeking advice on their child’s specific needs have approached me. In the beginning, I would be raught with conflict on how to best answer this question without prejudice.  Most of the time I would want to answer the question that was best for my current circumstance, but ultimately began to realize that answering the questioning in manner that is in the best interest of the child was needed. As I had begun to realize that often parents just don’t know the options and/or how to select the appropriate option.

I am taking it upon myself to give out three important tips on selecting the best educational circumstances for you child.

Always seek certified professionals
– Certified teachers will have a better understanding for you child needs. This is due to their continuing knowledge and practice in the current trends and needs of students.
Seek an environment that will make your child feel comfortable and confident
– It may not always be feasible for your child to work in their own space, such as your home; however, we all work better in settings that are set up for our success. Therefore, as the person who knows their child best, you should at least chose a location you know they will enjoy.
Demand documentation to support your child’s progress and needs
– Progress monitoring in education is vital in providing next steps. It helps determine the child’s strengths and weaknesses and allows all stakeholders to take part in the educational process.

The above tips can be used in the any circumstance, when you are choosing the appropriate educational placement for your child. These tips can help you in selecting between your local elementary school, after school program, and/or learning center/tutoring needs.
